Child Nurture and Relief (CHINAR is the brainchild of a few fellow travelers and concerned citizens of the world that recognize that children of all backgrounds should be provided an opportunity to flourish.

CHINAR, a nonprofit organization, was setup in January of 2003 (in Virginia, USA) with the vision to provide a stable and nourishing environment for the psycho-social rehabilitation of orphans and vulnerable children in conflict areas.

Since our inception we have successfully accomplished our goal of establishing and maintaining a safe and nurturing home for children with 2 loving mothers as caregivers. We also helped in disaster relief activities following the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir and a 2005 avalanche in one village in Kashmir. More recently, we have launched out Remote Sponsorship project to support children in their current familial environments.

Since our inception in 2003 we have successfully established and are maintaining a safe and nurturing home for children with 2 loving mothers as caregivers. We also helped in disaster relief activities following the 2005 earthquake in Kashmir and a 2005 avalanche in one village in Kashmir. More recently, we have launched out Remote Child Sponsorship Program to support children in their current familial environments. This program aims to reach 100 children by the end of 2012.

Vision:
CHINAR believes that it is critical to address the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in conflict areas by providing them with a stable support system so that they can lift themselves out of the cycle of violence and become productive members of society. The lack of such support can be disastrous for the child and the community it belongs to.

Our vision is to nurture, educate and empower such children so that they flourish and rise to their full potential.

Story:
One of the biggest casualties of war is the future of its youngest victims. They grow up in the shadow of gruesome violence and immense social change - often without familial protection and guidance. These children become easy recruits for various violent causes since their age and the psychological trauma of violence makes them more susceptible to manipulation. CHINAR works for the welfare of children of conflicts - especially orphans - by equipping them with the means to have a productive and peaceful future.

The main focus of CHINAR programs is:

*Psychosocial rehabilitation
*Teaching of non-violent means of conflict resolution
*Religious Tolerance
*Quality education
*Successful social integration
*Community involvement
